Project Description
ISTF Project #04-961 was developed in response to the 2004-2005 Internet Science and Technology Fair."
Project Title: Artificial Intelligence in Airport Security
NCT: Information and Communication
Sub-category: Artificial Intelligence
Technical application: Computer-based Reasoning Methods
Project Statement
Current baggage screening in airports requires trained personnel to identify and distinguish harmful materials in the images produced by these machines. The personnel cannot scan objects fast enough to keep up with the number of travelers going through security points. Artificial intelligence has the capability to allow for faster and more effective baggage screening by using computer systems to recognize the harmful materials instead of their human counterparts.
This project was developed by students from the Oklahoma School of Science and Math Regional Center in Enid, Oklahoma.
