Mechanics

All students will take Mechanics during their second semester (Spring). Mechanics is a calculus-based physics course typical of what engineering majors take during their first year at a university. The curriculum includes:
  • Vectors
  • Motion in One Dimension
  • Motion in Two Dimensions
  • Newton's Laws
  • Work/Energy
  • Momentum/Impulse
  • Elastic and Inelastic Collisions
  • Rotation of Rigid Bodies

All topics are expanded upon using the information learned in General Physics and in the Calculus course.

The goal is to prepare students for the Physics C Advanced Placement exam in May. The emphasis is on concepts and problem-solving skills rather than rote memorization of formulas. We intend for the student to earn credit for Physics I and enter the university in Physics II.
