Calculus
is the branch of mathematics that studies continuously changing quantities and
is characterized by the use of infinite processes.
Calculus serves as a powerful tool in solving problems that arise in
astronomy, biology, business, chemistry, economics, engineering, geology,
medicine, physics and the social sciences.
| The
calculus curriculum at OSSM Autry Tech is designed to be similar to that of
a typical college. Click here to view the syllabus
and list of topics for the Calculus I
and II courses. Students are expected to take the Advanced Placement
Calculus BC Exam given each May by the College
Board. Students can
earn up to two semesters of college calculus credit by passing this
exam. Click here for more information about the exam and to see
results of previous OSSM Autry Tech students.
During the fall semester
students take Calculus I which covers properties and applications of
functions, limits, derivatives and integrals. Instruction of calculus
concepts are presented through multiple approaches including numerical,
graphical, analytical and verbal methods. Graphing calculators and
computer software are used throughout the course to gain conceptual
understanding.
During the spring semester students take Calculus II
which includes additional methods of differentiation and integration,
infinite series, polynomial approximations and series, calculus for polar
equations, parametric equations and vector valued functions.
